What is Illustration?
A visualisation  of a text, pictures with message, communicate message through image making

What is Illustration for? What is it's function?
I think illustration can make viewer understand the picture without reading its text? Imagine if the world got no illustration ?
Animation - entertaining
Education/ Editorial - attraction
Packaging -

Where do you find illustration? In what context does it exist?
Everywhere I mean most of the place, look around. Illustration could be on wall, packaging, youtube, clothing, posters, 3D objects etc.

Who are the specific audiences for illustration?
Depending on the item. E.g. if an illustration have been placed onto a pampers, their target audience could be toddler. If an illustration have been placed on a pillow case, their target audience could be women.

------

A Book. I found this book on the library. I chose this book because it reminds me of screen print as I just done that technique few days ago. I like the used of limited and bold colour pallet as well as simple pattern.

A Magazine Article - For PC world by Papercut (http://papercut.fr) - i found the illustration look attractive as most of my work got/less tonal. I believe this illustration is vector and produced on Illustrator.

A Website that uses illustration - By looking at illustrative website making me realise that illustration can be use everywhere.

An Agency / Illustrators website - These are some of my favourite illustrator/agency website.

A 3D object that contains illustration - Nate Williams - I also just found this illustrator. I like his style and it made me realise that a good realistic drawing skill isn't the most important skills to have, it is essential tho. This illustration style reminds me of screen print technique and I love his style - depth but flat

As I just realised that I am good at Photoshop and Illustration and not very good at composing drawing e.g. playing with depth and angel. Like some of my friends their drawing skills are amazing but they are not very good at Adobe and tends to seek me for help. Basically I am just realise that all illustrators in my course have their own strength and weaknesses and it is important for me to learn their strength and apply within my work for my own good.

Study task 6

Character

  • I am interested in animal characters that look cute, colourful and friendly.
  • I would love to experiment with polygonal art illustration style (fox) as I think it look interesting and it is vector. I think it might be easy for to me create it as I am good at vector and Illustrator.
  • These illustration reminds me of my tone of voice as i like to add a bit of texture on my drawings.

Sequential

  • Sometimes when you only illustrated one piece one illustration is more than enough to tell a story.
  • As well as that, it is okay to add a bit of text so the target audience can understand the illustration more.
  • But the choose of colours, figure positions and expressions are important

Publishing

  • Illustration doesn't have to create using shape and lines, it can be create using texts.
  • The heading which is the next usually in contrast colour with the background so it stands out and legible to read.
  • I like limited colour scheme illustrations and I think it look simple and nice especially with negative space.
  • Image manipulation and do not only depending on Illustrator.
Editorial

  • Editorial illustrations will making more sense if they are together with the articles.
  • You can use variety techniques, media and processes for editorial> does not have to stick with vector and digital only.
  • I like negative space.

Promotion - Neighbourhood Studio, Ottica Moderna

  • Most promotion medias are posters, leaflets, stickers etc.
  • Adding text is essential especially > heading, subheading, details and call to action.
